Take a look behind the scenes as Jeb Corliss fufills his quest to make history. The first person to fly through Heaven’s Gate in Tianmen Mountain, China.

Tianmen Mountain is a mountain located within Tianmen Mountain National Park, Zhangjiajie, in northwestern Hunan Province, China.

A cablecar was constructed by the French company Poma from nearby Zhangjiajie railway station to the top of the mountain. Tianmen Mountain Cableway is claimed in tourist publications as the “longest passenger cableway of high mountains in the world”, with 98 cars and a total length of 7,455 metres and ascent of 1,279 metres. The highest gradient is an unusual 37 degrees. Tourists can walk on kilometres of paths built onto the cliff face at the top of the mountain, including sections with glass floors. An 11 kilometres road with 99 bends also reaches the top of the mountain and takes visitors to Tianmen cave, a natural hole in the mountain of a height of 131.5 metres.

A large temple is also located on the summit with chairlift or footpath access. The original temple here was built in the Tang Dynasty. Today a more recent construction with Tang dynasty architecture occupies the site and includes a vegetarian restaurant in the 10000 sq mi of setting.

On September 25, 2011 Jeb Corliss glided through the 30 m wide archway in the mountain using a wingsuit. The flight began from a helicopter at 1,800 m, and ended with a safe landing on a nearby bridge. The World Wingsuit League held the first and second World Wingsuit Championships in Tianmen. On October 8, 2013, during a training jump for the second world championships, Viktor Kováts plunged to his death when he was unable to open his parachute.

In August 2016, a glass skywalk overlooking Tongtian Avenue, called the “Coiling Dragon Cliff, was opened to the public.

A Wingsuit documentary about Jeb Corliss directed and produced by Iiro Seppänen

January 2012, Jeb Corliss, the world’s most recognized wingsuit pilot, miraculously survived a terminal velocity wingsuit accident at Table Mountain, South Africa. For the first time ever, you will get to hear what really happened and witness never-before-seen angles from this tragic accident.
Because of his accident, Jeb endured painful operations and physiotherapy in order to get to his next mission: to fly through a narrow crack in the Jianglang Mountains in China’s Zhejian Province, which is only 60 feet (18m) wide at the top and 15 feet (4.5m) at the bottom. “Flying Dagger” gives an up-close and personal insight into the career and achievements of Corliss in the lead up to this spectacular flight. This film is an inspiring story about redemption, a man’s journey to face his demons, to fulfill his dreams and strong determination to make them a reality.

Jeb Corliss – One of the world’s foremost and best known BASEjumper / Wingsuit pilots, Jeb Corliss has dedicated his life to “Human flight”. With over 1,200 jumps under his belt, he has hurled himself off of spectacular venues including from the top of the Eiffel Tower, The Golden Gate Bridge and The Petronas Towers in Malaysia, to name a few. Jeb Corliss is also a motivational speaker, Stunt Artist/Advisor (most recently on the set of the new Point Break film) as well as special appearances in film, television and live events (Including Super Bowl XXXVIII).

Jeb Corliss

(born March 25, 1976 near Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States) is a professional skydiver and BASE jumper. He has jumped from sites including Paris’ Eiffel Tower, Seattle’s Space Needle, the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, and the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Sure enough, Corliss has dedicated his life to human flight, and in so doing often makes the seemingly impossible a reality. He is one of the world’s foremost and best-known BASE-jumpers and wingsuit pilots. BASE stands for Building, Antenna, Span (bridges) and Earth (cliffs) all objects practitioners leap from using a parachute. In 14 years, Corliss has made more than 1,000 jumps, from the likes of the Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Falls in Venezuela, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and into a half-mile deep cave in China. He hasn’t simply leapt off and pulled his parachute, though. To add an extra layer of challenge, push the bounds of his ability, and further slice the razor slim margin for error, he has performed acrobatic maneuvers – twists, somersaults, and gainers – during freefall. More recently he discovered the thrills and challenge of BASE-jumping with wingsuits, flying along some of the most stunning and dangerous mountain terrain. In the nearest approximation of human flight yet, wingsuits (which are more flying squirrel than bird or plane) allow the best pilots to trace the contours of cliffs, ridges, and mountainsides at high speed. All of which makes for an incredible spectacle: In July 2011, Corliss flew feet from the ground in the Swiss Alps, an event captured on camera and broadcast on ABC’s 20/20. Two months later, in September, Corliss swooped through an arch in the side of China’s iconic Tianmen Mountain, in front of a live television audience of millions.
